Like his close friends, Jack Reddish and Dick Movitz, Dev Jennings got his skiing roots at Alta, Utah. He was well known in later years by setting many of the major ski racing courses at Alta, including the Snow Cup, Intermountain Championships, and the U.S. National Championship downhill in 1960. His reputation as a course setter gained him national recognition by setting courses that offered ultimate challenge but were set in such a way as to prevent serious injury.Jennings himself was an outstanding ski racer. He competed in Sun Valley’s famed Harriman Cup, Reno’s Silver Belt, and the U.S. National Championships. He was a member of the 1947 University of Utah Ski Team which won the National Collegiate title.In 1948, Jennings was named to the U.S. Winter Olympic Ski Team. The Olympic Games that year was held in St. Moritz, Switzerland.Jennings served as Executive Director of Ski Utah from 1961 to 1970. He subsequently moved to New Hampshire and served as Executive director of Ski New England from 1975 – 1995.In 1989, Jennings was inducted into the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame and he passed away in 2000 at age 75.
